8 ways to style a grown-out pixie cut

The pixie cut may be Hollywood’s hottest hairstyle of the year, but growing it out is hell on earth.

Instead of cute layers, you get an awkward helmet head that screams emo Bieber.

As someone who’s been trying to grow out a pixie cut, here is my guide to rocking it at every in-between stage.

1. High Fashion Knots

If you are sweltering in the city and you cannot be bothered to put your hair down, try wrapping your hair into tiny little rosettes. While your layers are short, contain them with a bobby pin and colored hair spray to cop this Manic Panic-esque look. It’s SO ’90s Gwen when you put it on with a vampy lip color. Believe me, street style photogs will chase after you.

2. Not Your Mom’s Bob Bangs

Tear a page out of the Miley Cyrus’s handbook and whip up some au courant side bangs! Style your post-pixie hair with a deep side part. If you have bangs, sweep it to the side to cop that classic ’80s boss b*tch hair. If your hair isn’t long enough, just copy the bangs!

3. The Basic Bitch Bun

As one of my go-tos when I get too lazy to do my hair, I have to admit this is my favorite classic hairdos. Everyone from Khloé Kardashian to the models at Nasty Gal has done it. Given that this is the hairstyle that every girl picks for festivals, you can take it to IRL when you wanna tie your hair up. Believe me, it’s so simple, but breezy.

The model in the pic has longer hair, but you can really rock this style at any length. Hot tip: buy those tiny clear rubber bands if your hair’s hella short. It’ll look dope!

4. Rihanna’s Favorite Hack

Hate it when you don’t know how to part your hair? Set your thoughts wild with Rihanna’s go-to styling tool: the bobby pin. It will be your BFF for the rest of the months when you need to grow your hair out. You can use these pins to try as MANY hairstyles as possible.

5. The Dino Buns

Sorry, Baby Bop. A new dinosaur has come to play with Barney and you are officially cancelled. If having a plain ol’ topknot ain’t your thang, get ready to be a bit more extra by doing two to three buns at the back of your head. Seriously, those are officially the new space buns.

6. Swish Swish Swoop!

Still not down to let your pixie cut grow past your ears? Swish those bangs like Cara D. To paraphrase Kehlani, it’s sweet, sexy, savage and VERY androgynous.

7. Wet Lewk Bob

If you are in the stage of an in-between mullet bob, look no further than Selena Gomez as your inspo. Grab your boyfriend’s gel and slick that hair back to fake that “I got out of the shower” lewk. Believe me, it’s so much chicer than having to tame your flyaways.

8. Get Wiggy With It

hey there

Ran out of your fave dry shampoo and styling products? Hit up the nearest Ricky’s (or any other beauty supply store) and get a damn wig! Although any color of the rainbow is not an easy one to get away with IRL, you can make a new post on your Instagram with that brand new ‘do.
