10 Outfits Inspired By David Bowie
David Bowie left behind a legacy that will never be forgotten, both as a musical vanguard and fashion innovator.
Bowie created a stylistic image for himself that could accompany his music. In a 1976 Playboy interview, Bowie told Cameron Crowe: “When I go out onto a stage, I try to make the performance as good and as interesting as possible, and I don’t just mean singing my songs and moving off. I think if you’re really going to entertain an audience then you have to look the part, too.”
From Jean Paul Gaultier to Haider Ackermann, a multitude of designers have been influenced by Bowie’s signature look. “[Bowie] was not about style (at least in the classic sense). He was about fashion,” said the New York Times.
Bowie left his imprint on the fashion world, inspiring artists, designers, models and stylists for years (and years) to come. In the editorial below, photographer Emma Woolrych teamed up with stylist Rebekah Roy to show us 10 outfits inspired by the iconic David Bowie.
